Event Description

Please join us for an exciting 6th African Professionals Speaker Series event, Building and Maintaining Professional Relationships across Cultures. Our panel speakers will present on the importance and their experience of building and maintaining professional relationships beyond one’s cultures and share strategies for engaging with colleagues and other professionals in an intercultural workforce. The presentations will be both from the African and non-African perspectives. The presentations would be followed by small group discussions to provide the event participants the opportunity to share their experiences and obtain answers to their questions on building intercultural relationships.

Event Agenda:
5:30 pm: Registration, Networking and Appetizers

6:00 pm: Welcome Remarks & Updates
6:15 pm: Panel presentation
7:30 pm: Break-out session
8:15 pm: Networking

About the Speakers

 

Daniel Darko

Associate Professor of the New Testament at Gordon College.

Daniel Darko is a New Testament scholar specializing in Pauline Studies and Methods/Principles of Biblical Interpretation. He is the President of Africa Potential, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering Africans for the service of Africa. Dan received his Ph.D.  from King’s College, University of London in the UK. Dan will share his experiences and the importance of maintaining intercultural relationships from the African professional perspective.

 

Ellen McCurley

International Development and Mental Health Practioner; Founder of The Pendulum Project

Ellen McCurley has extensive experience in international development and mental health practice and programming. In 2001, she founded The Pendulum Project, an international humanitarian organization based in Boston and in Malawi to strengthen the health and well-being of communities, families, and children affected by HIV/AIDS and poverty. She is a Clinical Social Worker with a master’s degree in Public Health from Boston University. Ellen will present the non-African perspective on maintaining intercultural relationships.

 

Kirk Vitello
