Overview
A. R. and Karen Bernard founded Brooklyn Preparatory School (BPS) in 1993. As parents, they understand the importance of educating the whole child: body, mind, and spirit. BPS, a foundation in early childhood education, is a school where children learn, grow, and develop their true selves as revealed in Christ — academically, cognitively, emotionally and spiritually. It is a learning center rich in rigor and discipline, academic and hands-on, experienced-based learning; an environment filled with love and nurturing, chock full of resources to stimulate our children’s natural curiosities and imaginations.
Classrooms are organized to allow many opportunities for interaction. Lessons in discipleship are balanced with the joy of wonder, playfulness and comraderie. Children learn how to think, to express themselves in spoken and written communication. They learn how to interact with each other, laying a foundation for a community of responsible, caring members with high self-esteem and a sense of belonging and contribution. Intra-curricular activities include gymnastics, swimming, ice skating as well as trips to the New York Public Library, Apple Orchards and Green Meadows Farm, New York Hall of Science Center, and attending live theater shows and performances in the metropolitan area and much more.
