Dr. Khalil Gibran Muhammad, PhD, Director of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, will delineate the history of racist policing policies and punishment that unfairly impacted African Americans from the Reconstruction period to present-day. Dr. Muhammad will also discuss the recent mobilization of social media networks and civil rights activists that have ignited a national movement to address the excessive use of force by law enforcement officials and the militarization of low-income communities of color.
